I voted to remain and remain a proud European. Despite Brexit, London will always be an open and welcoming city. I am incredibly proud that so many EU citizens have chosen to live, study, work or set up businesses here in Merton and Wandsworth. Our diversity is our strength and our best days are ahead of us.

As your Assembly Member, I’m committed to ensuring our community is resilient as we go through the transition period and beyond. I know from speaking to residents and business leaders that many people are unsure about how to remain resilient through this transition period, particularly after the Covid-19 pandemic. Queries range from future staffing to settled status, customs administration and VAT transactions to import delays and regulatory matters. Despite the uncertainty of change, I am determined that Merton and Wandsworth is as prepared as we can be.

Supporting people & business

The UK has now left the EU.

Support for EU Citizens

Over the past 4 years I’ve spoken to hundreads of EU citizens. Many feel anxious about their future. I urge them to keep up to date with the EU Settlement Scheme by signing up to emails from the Home Office. If you wish to stay after Brexit, you and your family must apply for settled or pre-settled status.

If you require further advice, I suggest that you contact your embassy or the Citizens’ Advice Bureaus.

Support for Merton and Wandsworth businesses

Businesses are likely to be impacted in different ways by the UK’s exit from the EU, depending on the UK/EU Trade Deal that the UK government and the EU will negotiate during 2020.
