MAKING COMMUTING MORE AFFORDABLE

The cost of living in London is simply too high. Along with housing, transport is one of the biggest costs Londoners face. That's why, together, we're delivering on our promise to make public transport in London more affordable after years of fare rises under the previous Mayor. We’ve frozen TfL fares for four years in a row, introduced the unlimited Hopper bus fare and got the Night Tube up and running.

CLEANING UP LONDON'S TOXIC AIR

Toxic air pollution causes thousands of premature deaths every year – as well as stunting the growth of children’s lungs and increasing the risk of asthma, cancer, strokes and dementia. It's also about social justice - air pollution has the biggest impact on the poorest Londoners who have the fewest cars. That's why, together, we're delivering the boldest action of any city in the world to tackle air pollution. I lobbied Sadiq Khan hard to declare a climate emergency – promising a Green New Deal for London, with an ambitious aim for London to be carbon neutral by 2030.

BUILDING NEW COUNCIL AND SOCIAL RENT HOMES

Every Londoner should be able to afford somewhere they can call home. That's why Labour is focusing on delivering council homes that Londoners can actually afford, rather than luxury penthouse apartments. Together we’re laying the groundwork for fixing London’s housing crisis once and for all. Last year, London started to build more council homes than in any year since 1984, we doubled the funding to help rough sleepers and I’m also backing rent control for the capital. I'll be fighting hard to ensure as many of those projects come to Merton and Wandsworth if elected for a second term at City Hall.

POLICING AND CRIME

Every death on London's streets is a tragedy. That's why I'm backing Labour's plan to be both tough on crime and tough on the causes of crime in the face of huge Tory cuts - by investing in community and sports projects to create more opportunities for young Londoners and funding 1,300 extra police by increasing council tax by 26p a week.
